There are many reasons why people decide to take the plunge and get a piercing. For style reasons, spur of the moment, or just plain rebellion.
I, myself, have 7 piercings, all of which I do not regret – although I’m almost certain that when I’m older I will take pretty much all of them out. But at this moment in my life, I am quite content with all my piercing choices.
I think piercings can look amazing but at certain times they can look over the top. Piercings can reflect on lifestyle choices, which ultimately can affect career options.
The same as tattoos, piercings do affect the way people look at you. For example, in a job interview, it can impact whether you come across as a sensible person – but this is all dependent on the type of career that you are hoping to get into.
In a creative art-based job, it won’t necessarily matter about the amount of piercings that you have, due to many people in that area of work generally being eccentric.
Personally I believe it’s your own choice of how you decide to adorn your body and to what extent, but there is a point where piercings become too much.
A lot of piercings in the same area, let’s say the face, can become over-crowded with too much metal in one area.
Piercings can become an addiction to certain people. The thrill and rush of adrenaline makes you feel alive, much like skydiving or bungee jumping.
But you know that it may have gone too far when your piercings are no longer a style but a lifestyle.
If your thinking of getting a piercing its best to take time to reflect on whether you do really want it and whether it would be acceptable in the area of work you planning on getting into.
There are ways round it such as plastic see through studs so when there is an occasion when you need the piercing to be hidden, see through studs are an option.
Piercings in fashion
Piercings are very much in fashion at the moment, they can be seen on some of the leading catwalks, such as the Givenchy. Their Haute Couture presentation in Paris. showcased their models wearing flamboyant septum rings.
Chanel has been seen adorning piercings in some of there collections, such as nose rings, that are linked to an earring with a delicate chain.
Piercings are a personal decision
Piercings are very much an acquired taste; I’ve spoken to many people that have said to me that they would never get a piercing.
There are many factors which deter people away, such as pain, whether they will suit the look, or if they will like the piercing.
I do believe that piercings should be carefully thought out beforehand, but it’s not necessarily a life changing decision.
Fortunately, unlike tattoos, piercings are not for life and can be easily removed and forgot about.
